South East is a beautiful place by all accounts. It is endowed with numerous tourist attractions and an amazing culture, but besides the famous attractions that London is known for, there are other hidden gems worth visiting that you will never hear about in the tourism promotional messages found all over the internet. Here are the hidden gems of the South East that everyone will enjoy visiting at absolutely no cost;

Biking Holidays in Britain

Great Britain is home to some wonderful landscapes, ranging from amazing coastal regions to magnificent hills and plains. For cyclists, the many off-road and other routes that can be explored are a welcome addition to the attractions across the UK, and if you enjoy the outdoors on a bike, you’re in one of the best places in Europe. With exciting forest routes – check out the magnificent cycle paths through Kielder Forest close to the Scottish Borders – and fine National Parks, you can choose to explore Britain using dedicated paths, or ride the roads to and from wherever you want to be.

Cycling is a great way of getting to see parts of the scenery that you would miss in a car or other form of transport, and it’s also a fun family pastime. Taking the children out on a ride on their mountain bikes, for example, couldn’t be more fun, and it gets them exercise and fresh air, too. Biking holidays in the UK are becoming more popular than ever, and with many families choosing the ‘staycation’ instead of traveling abroad, it might be something you want to consider even if cycling is not a regular pastime of yours.

Exploring the Picturesque Lake District

One of the most famous holiday spots in the UK is the Lake District. The lake district national park is unrivaled for its scenic beauty and pictorial landscapes. It lies in the distant northwestern part of England. There are altogether sixteen lakes in this area, Windemere is the largest one while Elterwater is the smallest one. Other than lakes there are other water reservoirs in this region as well such as tarns and other aquifers.

Lake district gained its popularity after the mid of 19th century when the railway came to Windermere in 1847. The Lake District is also world renown for its connections with the famous English poets William Wordsworth & Beatrix Potter. Moreover, you can still visit the old home of Beatrix Potter, which is a 17th-century old cottage known as the ‘Hill Top’. The house of Wordsworth is also nearby in the vicinity of Grasmere. You can even visit his grave that is in St. Oswald’s Churchyard.
