Top of the list of attractions in Bradford is undoubtedly the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television. Here you can spend a full day tracing the history of the most popular media of the past 100 years – something which has transformed all our lives. At Thornton, not far from Bradford, there’s one of two great literary attractions; the Bronte Birthplace, where Charlotte, Branwell, Emily and Anne Bronte were born, and the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth where the family lived from 1820-1861. This is the house where Jane Eyre and other novels were written.
Don’t miss the splendid Bradford Cathedral. and Cartwright Hall, built in 1904 as a millionaire’s mansion, today houses a unique collection of 19 th and 20 th century art. East Riddleston Hall is another engrossing architectural historical site, packed with interesting exhibits. Cliffe Castle Museum is another must for history lovers. Haworth’s Bronte Weaving Shed is packed with great things to buy, and you can see how the famous Bronte Tweed is woven.
West Yorkshire isn’t all ancient history for visitors. There are some great family attractions for kids of all ages, such as the Eureka Museum for kids in Halifax. The Bradford Industrial Museum takes you on a trip into the area’s commercial past – and you’ll see some beautiful Shire working horses. Bradford’s Colour Museum is a real eye-opened, demonstrating the history of colour in ourlives and clothing down the ages.
You’ll be nothing less than awestruck by Huddersfield’s state of the art Galpharm Stadium with it’s fantastic sporting arena, golf range and entertainment complex. Theatre and show lovers shouldn’t miss a night at Bradfords fabulous old Alhambra Theatre, and whilst you’re in the city, take a look at the impressive City Hall and City Park.
