As soon as you enter Somerset, if you're driving along the fast M5 motorway, you are spoiled for choice at every junction where appealing place names are ready to entice you away; Glastonbury, Taunton, Minehead, Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare to name but a few.
Throughout the county you'll find all those places which go into making a break memorable. Cider presses, Somerset County Cricket ground, animal adventure parks, a selection of wonderful museums
There are some great heritage sites such as the Cathedral in Britain's smallest city, Wells, and of course that air of mystery, myth and legend which surrounds Glastonbury.
There are natural wonders to visit, too, such as the caves at Wookey Hole and the dramatic Cheddar Gorge.
The children will love the Seaquarium and the Animal Farm Adventure Park and the whole family will thrill to a ride on a steam train on the West Somerset Railway, whilst Dad can bask in the history of the car at the Haynes Motor Museum.
If you enjoy seaside fun and glorious beaches, then at Minehead, and Weston-super-Mare you'll be in heaven. This is also some of Britain's finest walking country, with walks as relaxed or as strenuous as you choose.
