This is the place where the whole concept of a 'seaside resort' was invented. Scarborough is undoubtedly the oldest resort - as we understand the term today - in the UK. The town has been welcoming visitors for over 360 years. This is a town which wins accolades - for two years hand running, Scarborough has won tourism's Gold Excellence in England Award, and once you arrive here, you'll soon realise why.
This is a graceful, elegant town which sits grandly on its lofty, elevated headlands facing the rugged splendour of the North Sea. To the west lies the glorious North Yorkshire Moors. There's history here - streets, museums and libraries full of it. Anne Bronte died here in 1848 and is buried in the 12th Century churchyard of St. Mary's.
Scarborough today is a vibrant, exciting place which has undergone a huge renaissance as a resort in recent years. This bustling resort represents the very heartbeat of Yorkshire. The North Bay beach, with the Castle towering above, popular with families, is a quiet and sandy stretch of coastline as fine as any in the UK, and just a short walk from the impressive Sealife Centre and the lovely Peasholm Park.
